PD Dr. Josef Guber graduated from the medical school at the University of Basel, where he received his medical degree in 2005 and the medical doctor title in 2007. After three years of general surgical training at the University Hospital Zurich, he completed his ophthalmic training at the University Hospital Basel and later at the Cantonal Hospital Lucerne. In 2012, he received the Swiss and European specialist title in ophthalmology (FMH / FEBO) and in 2014, the Swiss title for ophthalmic surgery (FMH). As part of his ophthalmic surgical training, he spent several years (2012-2016) abroad in England, where he deepened his expertise in the field of retinal, macular and vitreous surgery. He completed fellowships at St. Helier University Hospital in London, the internationally renowned University Eye Hospital in Bristol, and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. In addition to his clinical work, he pursues intensive research, primarily in the field of retinal diseases.
PD Dr Josef Guber has the venia docendi for ophthalmology of the University of Basel.
PD Dr. Josef Guber is a member of the Swiss Vitreoretinal Group (SVRG), the
Swiss Ophthalmological Society (SOG), the Zurich and East Swiss Medical
Association and the Association of British and Irish Retinal Surgeons
(BEAVRS).
