Miss Dr. Varde studied medicine in Frankfurt am Main and passed the state examination in 2001. This was followed by AiP and assistant doctor work at the university clinics in Tübingen, Erlangen and Kiel as well as the specialist accreditation for ophthalmology in 2007. This was followed by a 2-year fellowship in the field of traumatology and oculoplasty (eyelid, tear duct and orbital surgery) at the Sankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital in Chennai, India, one of the largest reference centers for subspecialized ophthalmology in Asia. She graduated with honors and returned to Germany to work as senior physician at the Nordstadtklinikum in Hanover from 2010 to 2016. Her work focused on eyelid, tear duct and orbital surgery as well as cataract and retinal surgery with a special interest in reconstructive surgery. During several internships in Germany and abroad, she acquired further knowledge in various areas of oculoplasty. In 2011 she passed the examination for Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmologists (FEBO) as second best in the overall examination. She has held the certificate of the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG) for special plastic-reconstructive and aesthetic surgery since 2012 and has been a full member of the European Society for Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ESOPRS) since 2015. She is a member of the German (DOG) and the Swiss Ophthalmological Society (SOG). She has had the specialization in ophthalmic surgery since 2017. Since 2012, Dr. Varde regularly teaches oculoplasty at the Presbyterian Eye Hospital in Cameroon as a short-term lecturer, supported by the DOG. She has also been a member of the examination committee of the European National Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) since 2012. Miss Dr. Varde has been part of the oculoplasty team at the Kantonsspital St. Gallen since 2016 with a special focus on tear duct surgery. She has written several chapters in various books so far.
